Basic Necessities

Head-to-Toe Program

Head-to-Toe offers support for families in economic crisis, helping children meet basic needs without shame for the opportunity to live their best childhood.

By addressing visible signs of poverty, this program removes barriers that can keep children from fully participating in school and outdoor activities alongside their peers, replacing ill-fitting footwear and providing a warm coat, boots and socks.

Within the program are Moving Mountains funds, entrusted to local schools to care for urgent needs of their students in ways that are often time sensitive, and sometimes, life-saving.

The Impact of Head-to-Toe

Each year, hundreds of children, identified by their schools, benefit from Head-to-Toe, gaining the dignity, comfort, and confidence they need to succeed. Your support makes a direct and immediate difference, ensuring every child is ready for the season ahead.

While items like coats and mittens are tangible, their true purpose is found in the profound impact they have on a child’s mental and physical health. The painful truth of poverty is the invisible wall it builds—we have heard heartbreaking testimonies of children who lacked the courage to ask a peer to borrow, or who stood on the sidelines during recess because they didn’t have the winter gear to join their friends sledding. This lack of essentials doesn't just hurt the body; it erodes the spirit, leading to social withdrawal and stigmatization.

By providing these necessities, we fund the opportunity for a child to live their "best childhood"—one defined by inclusion rather than isolation. We have seen how a pair of sturdy boots and warm socks can become a child's engine; for the student whose family cannot afford the gas to drive him to school, these essentials grant him the "I can do it" mindset to get himself there, regardless of financial limitations.

"You gave me a part of boots when I was little; do you have any idea what that meant to me?" - recent H.S. graduate

A well-fitted coat or a new pair of shoes acts as a shield against bullying, giving a child the dignity to step out of the shadows. Your support does more than make a purchase; it fosters a sense of belonging and restores the mental well-being of a child who can finally engage and "fit in." This is the foundation of resilience and the core of our mission to create a brighter future.
