Basic Necessities

Basic Necessities

Basic Necessities are a cornerstone of our work, because when children have what they need, family stability and hope can grow. Our programs provide more than essentials—they offer dignity, security, and the foundation for a healthy childhood.

By filling critical gaps, we help families move forward, preventing a deeper fall into poverty.

Our Head-to-Toe program ensures that children in southern Vermont have the clothing, shoes, school supplies, and health essentials they need as they grow. By providing winter coats, snow pants, boots, backpacks filled with school supplies, and dental kits, the program helps children feel confident, included, and ready to learn.

Basic Necessities Go Beyond the Tangible

A Shower In School

  • A shower in school helps children who do not have the luxury of consistent access to clean running water, who are living in campers or parents unable to afford to pay for utilities.

A Washer & Dryer in School

  • A washer and dryer provides a way for schools to care for the health and safety of children who don't have access to a change of clean clothing.
  • Diapers, Laundry Supplies and Personal Hygiene items gives families access to human necessities through food pantries, preschools, and community partners.
