What We Do
60% of the Foundation’s community giving is through programs where the Stratton Community Foundation has a leadership role and dedicates administrative effort, establishes local and national partnerships, and executes via community and volunteer outreach.
40% of the Foundation’s community giving is through our influence and GRANT AWARDS to organizations that execute critical services.
With your support, we can help hundreds of children, providing the essentials they need to be warm and safe, learn, maintain healthy habits, and overcome the stigma of what their parents cannot afford.
In 2022, the Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation raised its commitment to the Southern VT area through a matching $62,500 grant to the Stratton Foundation to expand our assistance, gifting $112,500 since 21’. Please join us as we continue to help those in need.
Help us double every dollar raised!
The Stratton Community Foundation is concerned about the lack of access to food that local families will have over the coming winter months and holidays.
We hear from teachers who say that children are asking for help because
"we have no food at home."
Working closely with our community partners, the Foundation is creating solutions to get food directly into the hands of those in need:
Weekend backpack programs
Holiday food distribution
Farm to School programs
Supplementing food pantries
Distributing grocery cards
Afterschool food inititives
In-school snack and food cupboards
and more!
Join the Stratton Foundation in an ambitious effort to uplift future generations by providing local Vermont teens with college scholarships and the pursuit of success and economic independence.

The Nathan M. Michael Carreira Fund is a Stratton Foundation endowment established in loving memory of Nathan, age 15, of Ludlow Massachusetts, and in honor of Nathan’s parents, Michael and Karen Carreira. The Carreira Family dedicated donations to the Stratton Foundation after Nathan’s passing. Skiing was Nathan’s true passion, and he quickly developed a love for racing, spending every weekend at Stratton Mountain. Proceeds are dedicated to programs and critical services to support teen mental health and suicide prevention. [Nathan, born March 12, 2003-March 26, 2018]

The way to make the biggest impact on oral health (with limited direct access to cleaning the teeth of children in school due to COVID), is to give children the tools they need and to incentivize schools to create a curriculum around oral health habits. In March, during National Children’s Dental Health Month, 1,700 dental kits were distributed to 14 schools, Pre-K through 8th grade. This included activities and educational cartoons through our partnership with the Southern Vermont Area Health Education Center. Dental kits included toothbrush, toothpaste, timer, floss, and sticker in a sturdy zipper pouch, purchased and donated by dentists from across New England to help VT children.
Thank you to the school staff and administrators who go above and beyond as our partners on the frontlines to care for our local children and families!
